2017 Csa Week 18

2017 Csa Week 18

2017 Csa Week 18 This week we included a fermented summer squash recipe which has really great flavor. usually lacto fermentation is associated with cabbage in the form of sauerkraut, but almost anything can be fermented to create a tangy flavor, including eggplant, radishes, and tomatoes. I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday weekend. we made a somewhat impromptu trip to the beach and i got to see my baby (and my mom!) see the ocean for the first time this evening.

Csa 2017 We hired on two new workers this week kevin and emily. i told everyone about kevin last week but emily had her first day last thursday and we are excited to have her on the farm. Last week we were blessed with a wonderful harvest of our wholesale crops of burdock and carrots, and the cooler is filled with totes upon totes of roots. the musky scent of the burdock fills the air, such a medicinal healing smell. Last week marked the final harvest of the 2017 mountain roots produce summer csa season and today is the first 2017 fall csa harvest. time is cruising by a little too fast and it's hard to believe the middle of october is quickly approaching. As we head into the last few weeks of the csa, the shares are split between the last of the summer crops, some fall storage crops, and some brand new greens that were just seeded a few weeks ago. in fact, now that the days are shorter, our old friend spinach is back on the menu.

We are planning on this year’s event taking place on november 4th. we will share the details in the coming weeks, but please mark your calendars as we would love to see each of you! on the farm this week, our first annual crop will go in the ground for our 2018 season — garlic. Here is our tentative list of what we **hope** to bring you this coming week of csa. regular share choice: cucumbers or eggplant roasted peppers (anaheims or sweet carmens) pepper mix red tomatoes choice: onions or garlic spaghetti squash choice: brussels sprouts or potatoes choice: zucchini or carrots or baby red russian kale large share…. This week’s share carrots potatoes onions garlic napa cabbage sweet peppers eggplant lettuce scallions cooking celery. Over the course of 18 weeks we had 11 17 items in each weekly share. we were also impressed with the variety of veggies we harvested through the winter months – most weeks we had more fresh picked produce than storage veggies which is amazing (even in the coldest and darkest of winter days)!.
