I will be giving and accepting hugs this week from friends (not required) as i push through this extremely difficult period of loss. soon there will be more time for rest, healing, adventures, and traveling. This week’s winter squash is the orange kabocha. tuesday delivery folks will also receive a festival squash, as friday folks received theirs last week. the festival looks like a lighter, striped acorn squash, and tastes a lot like a delicata. In next week’s blog i will talk about current threats to organics. these issues were brought up by the post. i already new about them from my organic farming community but was glad to see them getting national press. hopefully public awareness and pressure can keep organics strong!.
2017 Csa Week 16 This week’s winter squash is the orange kabocha. tuesday delivery folks will also receive a festival squash, as friday folks received theirs last week. the festival looks like a lighter, striped acorn squash, and tastes a lot like a delicata. This weeks share includes dense vegetables that make nice hardy food as the weather starts to turn early this year. these meals are sure to warm the body and soul. Our weekend was jam packed with family visits, our annual cheese party (more on that to come), and a wedding. with all these beauties sitting in the fridge counter for the weekend, i’m excited to dive in. We’ve been busy preserving the autumn bounty – smoking and dehydrating peppers, and making ground cherry jam and spicy salsa. and just when we could see the end of the apple pile, neighbor russ hanson let us come forage another four bushels from the many dozens of trees that his father had planted. We hope everyone is enjoying being a part of a csa and we cannot thank you enough for sharing this season with us! without each of you, our csa program could not survive. with the hot weather sticking around, you will once again find a mixture of summer and fall crops in this week’s cooler.
