Sfa Students Leave Mark In Austin During Legislative Internship Program Stephen f. austin state university’s legislative internship program provides a hands on, once in a lifetime opportunity to see state government in action. through an internship in austin, students gain insights into the workings of the texas legislature during the regular session. Many of the program’s former participants continue to work in public service at the federal, state, and local levels of government, including three current members of the texas house of representatives and three current harris county court at law judges.
Interested In Becoming A Georgia Legislative Intern Administered by the university of texas system, students in the program complete high impact internships at the texas capitol and state agencies, gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process, public administration, and policy development. The work is fast paced and meaningful, and interns gain knowledge of the legislature and how a legislative office functions while receiving internship credit and completing coursework in politics. Created in 1990, tlip provides opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students attending texas colleges and universities to serve as interns in the texas legislature, in various state agencies, and in local government. Psci 6v42 legislative affairs internship (1 6 semester credit hours) students will work with the professor to identify with a relevant government office approved by the professor. Each year, five sfa students are selected to participate in our legislative internship program. to be considered for a place in the program, students must have junior or senior standing. The texas legislative internship program (tlip) is now accepting applications for the spring 2025 session. this spring, tlipers (as they are known) will have the opportunity to work in the 89th texas legislative session in austin, texas. Students interested in the political process and in the kind of humanitarian values exemplified by congressman leland are encouraged to apply for the internship. commissioner ellis serves as advisor to the interns, while his office assists in coordinating on site activities.
