Csa Week 3 2016 This week we plan to begin trellising tomatoes, keep up with the strawberry harvesting as well as the beginning of zucchini and summer squash harvest. this week also marks the beginning of our summer broccoli that is always a hit. While many parts of the state experienced rain during spotty thunderstorms last week, we missed them all in new braintree. sometimes the quabbin reservoir splits the storms north and south…and since we are due east of the reservoir, those storms skip us.
Csa Week 8 2016 A new arrival to the share this week is red russian kale., which we find to be one of the better flavored kales out there. kale can be eaten raw, juiced, but i think the best is lightly cooked. They should be in abundance for the next week but its hard to say depending on weather and a few other factors. our current producing plants are in their first year and we are just loaded with berries this week so expect a healthy portion in your share. And then there’s 3,000lbs of produce that we harvest each week for our amazing csa members. rotating the livestock, building fences, irrigating the pasture, loading and stacking the first of the hay… some farmers call it the spring avalanche. now it feels like it’s turning into the summer tsunami.
