Csa Week 18 2021 Autumn is officially going to start this week and the long range forecast does have some “good working weather” type days included so that’s a plus! we have some pretty hard labor jobs coming up and the cooler weather will be welcome. Thyme we were very happy to be able to offer an herb this week. fresh thyme is wonderful added to soups, curry, vegetable pot pies, or even made into tea. if you don’t think you’ll use it fresh, you can always unbunch the thyme bundle and lay it out on a tray to dry or in the oven on very, very low heat (maybe with the door cracked).
Csa Week 8 2021 It’s week #18, and it looks like the warm, dry, and smoky weather isn’t done with us yet. it’s funny how warm 80 feels after that cool weather in mid august. but if that’s what nature is serving up, we’ll pivot and make good use of it. Pepper season has begun! this week our csa share includes japanese eggplant, zucchini, zephyr squash, arugula, sun gold tomatoes and a mix of sweet peppers. This week, my crew was pulling poly from the fields. we’ve cleaned out the pepper plants from both high tunnels, and pulled out all those burlap coffee bags from the beds. We included highly nutritious sprouting broccoli greens, which can be used similar to collard greens, and are great sauteed with pasta (check out this week’s blog recipe), slow cooked with onions, or in a savory soup.
Csa Week 2 2021 This week, my crew was pulling poly from the fields. we’ve cleaned out the pepper plants from both high tunnels, and pulled out all those burlap coffee bags from the beds. We included highly nutritious sprouting broccoli greens, which can be used similar to collard greens, and are great sauteed with pasta (check out this week’s blog recipe), slow cooked with onions, or in a savory soup. This week’s box is a great sampling of all the vegetable families we grow at mile creek. the summer csa boxes have been loaded with solanums, a plant family that thrives in the warm weather. Well, we made it! 18 weeks of nutrient dense, delicious produce, as fossil free as we can possibly make it. many thanks to our customers, who make the work worthwhile. This last week was dry again and we have gotten almost no rain this year. today there is a light sprinkle going on but man has it been a long, hot and dry season. It's a week to celebrate the sweet crunch of fall lettuces, cabbage, hand picked green beans and kale. if the greens are too much for you to manage this week, remember that the kale freezes beautifully for you to use in soups and cooked dishes later in the season.
