Updates For Participants Biocard Study

Updates For Participants Biocard Study Annually, we provide updates about the study, as well as related findings in the field. there are typically three presentations each year. one presentation is given by the study director and provides a general overview of how the study is progressing, and highlights of specific findings of note. Once again this year the biocard study team has organized a series of virtual presentations, known as the biocard participant forum. the goal of these presentations is to provide updates on the overall progress of the study, as well as to discuss recent scientific findings of interest.

Biocard Study Biocard’s investigators are about to submit a request for the next round of five year funding from the national institute on aging — money that covers the procedures that provide state of the art information about brain structure and function in the participants. Since then, participants have been followed up annually with clinical and cognitive assessments, and bi annually with mri scans, cerebrospinal fluid, and blood specimen collection. enrolment of additional participants began in 2020, with the sample now comprising 477 individuals (as of august 2025). The participants in the biocard study were all cognitively unimpaired and primarily middle age when first enrolled. the study began in 1995 and was transferred to johns hopkins university in 2009, where it continues to the present time. Following our tradition of sharing the forum’s materials with our biocard study participants, this year we shall feature pre recorded presentations by our three guest speakers coupled with virtual q&as. the registration will be complimentary and open to all interested to attend. Q: do you plan to have more biocard participants be involved with your study and have their medical (specifically eye vision) records provided to you before you do any testing research with them? how many participants have you studied so far for your research? a: this work is still getting underway. Updates about findings from the study and the field in general are provided by an annual ‘newsletter’ and videos posted on the website annually. video presentations from recent ‘participant forums’ can be found here.
