We have therefore conducted a structured literature review in order to synthesise the main discourses surrounding the role of fire in rewilding so that researchers and practitioners are better aware of the opportunities and risks when considering fire as part of rewilding programmes. Combining field observations, remote sensing, and vegetation modelling with policy strategies scenarios, rewild fire will inform regional, national and european policy makers of the contribution of forest nbs to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 in mountain regions. Our findings underscore the dual role of fire as both a threat and a potential management tool in rewilded landscapes.
