Just keep trying. no one’s first attempt is pretty. geeze if reddit was around the first time i baked bread, you’d have proof of that statement! i made a brick crossed with a door stopper! killed the yeast ate every bite of it thinking i had just made a thick, dense loaf lol!! all these years later, i sell my baked goods on the side.

This might be op's first time baking a cake, but they're a seasoned baker, pastries, pies, brownies etc. so the knowledge is there even if it is something brand new. My first ever cake! i’m so proud of this cake! three layer devils food (stella’s recipe, serious eats) with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and a chocolate ganache coat. it is delicious. the cake is so light and moist. i’ve made the cream cheese frosting before and it was a perfect pairing.
