A Transformative Experience
Transformative Experience Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute Transformative experiences are experiences that radically change the experiencer in both an epistemic and personal way (see paul 2014). when a person transforms epistemically, they gain knowledge of “what the experience is like” that they could not have had without the experience. I will argue not only that imaginable experiences can be transformative, but that experiences of a kind which an agent is experientially acquainted with can also be transformative.
A Transformative Experience Perspective The concept of transformative experience (te) has been widely explored by several disciplines from philosophy to neurobiology, and in different domains, from the spiritual to the educational one. this attitude has engendered heterogeneous models to explain this phenomenon. This book argues that, for choices involving dramatically new, life changing experiences, we are confronted by the brute fact that we can know very little about our subjective futures. As i develop it, a transformative experience is a kind of experience that is both radically new to the agent and changes her in a deep and fundamental way; there are experiences such as becoming a parent, discovering a new faith, emigrating to a new country, or fighting in a war. In contemporary philosophy, transformative experience refers to an experience that both significantly changes a person and cannot be fully understood or evaluated before it occurs.
