Viewpoint Worship The concept of "worship" in the bible is far richer than a single definition. it encompasses both profound, lifelong commitment and specific, intentional acts of devotion. Human beings were created to worship god. worship is no doubt our highest priority when it comes to why we exist; god severely demands it and we as his creation ought to discern that.
Worship Is Viewpoint Eight foundational principles for a theology of worship, taken from the prologue to the worship sourcebook. 1. christian worship should be biblical. the bible is the source of our knowledge of god and of the world’s redemption in christ. worship should include prominent readings of scripture. We must first understand worship from the most basic level: creation and the fall. from there, we can see god’s original intentions compared to what we have today. additionally, we recognize how god has worked throughout the old testament to bring back what sin and evil have taken. A full vision of worship encompasses every dimension of life. worship actively places us before the true and living god and calls us to respond with every dimension of who we are. faithful worship unlocks and opens, calls and guides us in our life as faithful exiles. By turning the aesthetic elements of worship to the utilitarian end of producing a subjective experience of god, the seeker sensitive model forfeits both beauty and truth. Invitations to participate in community service are a prime example of how we can live lives of worship by engaging in the practices of jesus and encountering christ in “the least of these” with whom he identifies (see matthew 25). the “vertical” and the “horizontal” can both be acts of worship. Liturgical scholars generally agree that the worship of the church arises out of the gospel and is, in this sense, event oriented. the primary focus of worship is not an abstract deity, but the god who acts in history to redeem and restore human beings and the created order.
