Wiring Problem Talkbass Hi, i am building my second bass and am having trouble with the electronics. i ordered some single string pickups because the ones that i wound weren't good enough to pickup a signal. i am trying to wire them into a tone, volume and tone cap configuration but aren't getting any sound. i am. The problem is that all the wiring becomes an antenna for inducing emi noise when the switch isn't connecting the pickup through or to ground. it's about like plugging in an instrument cable to your amp & then not plugging in the instrument. if you wave that around you will hear the noise, if the amp is turned up. I finally found the problem and i still don't know if it's a common thing. one of the pickups has to be wiring with the red wire with the green to the earth and the second with the white and the green to the earth. i can do that with one or the other and it works but both wired the same way and it doesn't work anymore.
