The welcoming practice or welcoming prayer is a method of actively letting go of thoughts and feelings that support the false self system. the method of the welcoming prayer includes noticing the feelings, emotions, thoughts and sensations in your body, welcoming them, and then letting them go.
Welcoming Practice Gravity “welcoming prayer is the practice that actively lets go of thoughts and feelings that support the false self system. it embraces painful emotions experienced in the body rather than avoiding them or trying to suppress them. Centering prayer teaches us how to release thoughts in the safety of silence. but what happens when we leave the chair? how do we maintain that sense of surrender when life hits us with frustration, pain, or even overwhelming joy? this is where the welcoming practice begins. Through the process of using the practice we benefit by recapturing essential spiritual energy that otherwise would have been lost in a state of resistance or reactivity. the ideal time to use the practice is as close as possible to the upsetting situation. These days we meet every tuesday evening from 7:30 online and sit together for 30 min, followed by council practice. newcomers are always welcome! drop in and take part. see contact page for the zoom link.

Spending time scanning our bodies when we begin to feel something and following its movement is a very important part of the welcoming prayer. we are accessing the unconscious through our body. this does not come easy for me, and i have to consciously practice sensing or feeling my emotions. Welcoming prayer is a simple way of surrendering to god’s presence in our daily life. this method can help us dismantle unhelpful mental and emotional habits so that we respond rather than react to circumstances. “to welcome and to let go is one of the most radically loving, faith filled gestures we can make in each moment of each day. it is an open hearted embrace of all that is in ourselves and in the world.” ~ mary mrozowski. This praxis booklet helps you learn and establish a welcoming prayer practice – consent on the go – as well as understand the contextual background for its transformative process.
