Washington St Underpass Beyond Walls In just five days, anna completed a magnificent mural located under an mbta underpass in downtown lynn. her mural represents her filipino culture and serves as an image of power, femininity, and protection. In late 2017, work got underway to brighten and activate the shadowy, crime and accident ridden underpasses of central square, washington street and market street with dynamic, colorful and programmable led lighting installations.
Washington St Underpass Beyond Walls Washington street’s underpass of steel planks offered no location for integrated light, so linear fixtures with graze optics were mounted just below the steel structure, blanketing the underpass with light. Lam partners teamed with payette and port lighting to design dramatic and colorful underpass lighting, connecting central square and washington street, creating an inviting and appealing nighttime experience. Residents saw those underpasses as part of the reason why lynn as a whole was struggling. the feedback received in those community meetings inspired a group of community members to put ideas into action and came together to form beyond walls in 2017. Most recently, beyond walls secured an active license from the mbta to install dynamic led lighting under the central square, washington and market street underpasses.
