Urban Forestry Urban Greening 10 2025 Breakthroughs The integration of fragmented urban green spaces like urban forests, wetlands, and community gardens provides crucial habitats for diverse wildlife, promotes ecological balance, and ensures essential services such as pollination and pest control (bowler et al., 2025; dainese et al., 2019). Urban forestry and urban greening is a refereed, international journal aimed at presenting high quality research with urban and peri urban woody and non woody vegetation and its use, planning, design, establishment and management as its main topics.

Urban Forestry Urban Greening 10 2025 Breakthroughs Explore 168 research articles published in the journal urban forestry & urban greening (elsevier bv) in the year 2025. the journal publishes majorly in the area (s): environmental science & biology. In this review, we show that restoring urban nature could be based on an ensemble of simple, yet effective, supporting actions targeting different ecological levels to sustain ecosystem functioning and services at different spatial scales. This review synthesizes more than 300 recent studies and 59 primary sources to examine cooling mechanisms, ecosystem co benefits, design guidelines, governance frameworks, and research gaps, and proposes a transdisciplinary agenda for climate ready, equitable urban forest expansion. We translate these findings into urban greening strategies that prioritize canopy continuity, under canopy permeability, and maintainability, providing sustainability oriented, parameterized guidance for converting urban greening structure into ecological capital for sustainable cities.

Recent research on heat plan ning in the united states does suggest that urban forestry and other forms of vegetation are one of the leading strategies for cities, but they do not focus on the siting practices (meerow and keith, 2022; turner et al., 2022). Our analysis begins with rural forest transitions and nineteenth century greening efforts, then explores how socio environmental disparities unfolded across the twentieth century and have been transmuted into contemporary initiatives in cities like new york, philadelphia, and boston. While this review provides valuable insights into the current state of rs and i tree applications in urban forest es assessment, it also high lights several areas for future research that could further enhance the integration and practical application of these technologies in urban forest management and policymaking. Dedicated to improving the conditions of forests in urban communities where 84 percent of americans live, work, and play. works with partners to improve the health and vibrancy of communities through planting and maintaining trees, forests, and green spaces.
