Ummc Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Mccarty Architects This project consists of the redesign of the current pediatric intensive care unit located on the 2nd floor of the blair e. batson hospital at the university of mississippi medical center campus. It is the referral center for infants, children and adolescents requiring highly complicated and life saving procedures. the hospital's 32 bed pediatric intensive care unit (picu), located within kathy and joe sanderson tower, is the only facility of its kind in the state. According to ummc, the proposed project involves renovating the existing 28 bed pediatric intensive care unit (picu) on the first floor of the blair e. batson children’s hospital. The new picu unit is on the west side of the children’s of mississippi tower and will feature 12 dedicated cardiac beds for medical and surgical care for children with congenital heart defects.

The new picu unit is on the west side of the children’s of mississippi tower and will feature 12 dedicated cardiac beds for medical and surgical care for children with congenital heart defects. When umc came to cdg to design a dynamic and modern, yet comforting pediatric unit, two main issues needed to be clearly addressed: understanding the scale of the hospital and creating a supportive healing space for children. Our pediatric critical care division includes the pediatric intensive care unit (picu) and pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (pcicu), a 19 bed facility that provides state of the art multidisciplinary critical care for young patients with life threatening medical, cardiac and surgical conditions. These facilities are designed with the whole family in mind, incorporating design elements such as biophilic design, positive distractions, technology, and thoughtful color palettes. here, healthcare design highlights 10 recent pediatric healthcare facilities that stand out. The 340,000 square foot expansion now houses the state’s only pediatric intensive care unit and emergency department and includes treatment programs for cancer, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, and more.
