Aimed at anyone interested in planting trees or shrubs on their properties, penn state extension’s upcoming tree planting webinar series will cover common barriers, installation and maintenance, and case studies. The best time to plant most trees is in the early spring and fall, but because of increased mortality some trees, such as all bare root nursery stock, as well as oaks, zelkova, tulip poplar, and dogwood, should not be planted in fall. Bare root stock must be planted in fall or early spring, preferably when most deciduous trees are leafless or nearly so; using container or balled and burlapped trees extends the planting season by several weeks at both times.
