Transition Ii Transition Ii About transition ii is a collage of sounds recorded over four years. it covers the country scape of eastern norway to the city scape of western germany. like in my other compositions using field recordings, the transition from one situation to the other is in focus. Alpine treeline species, like great basin bristlecone pine (gbbp) (pinus longaeva bailey), have received attention for their potential as indicators of climate change.

About Us Transition Ii
About Us Transition Ii

About Us Transition Ii Altitudinally separated bristlecone pine populations in the white mountains (california, usa) exhibit differential climate–growth responses as temperature and tree water relations change with altitude. The bristlecone pine is extremely drought tolerant due to its branched shallow root system, its waxy needles, and thick needle cuticles that aid in water retention. We report on preliminary investigations into recent and unexpected great basin bristlecone pine mortality at two sites, including the potential roles of weather induced stress and bark beetles. Occasionally one finds places in the great basin where bristlecone pine was used by euroamericans during the early settlement period, e.g. by prospectors and miners for housing and basic tools.

Leaf: evergreen needles, short (1 to 1 1 2 inches long), curved, fascicles of 5, dark green but usually covered with white dots of dried resin. remain on tree for 10 17 years, giving a bushy appearance that resembles a fox's tail. Learn facts about the great basin bristlecone pine’s habitat, diet, life history, and more. In this alpine ecosystem, i share a few moments of time with the oldest living non clonal organism on earth – the great basin bristlecone pine (pinus longaeva). Our goals were to determine whether gb bristlecone pine is a suitable host for mpb, and to assess its defense characteristics and level of resistance relative to other high elevation pinus species in the region.
