Trans Asian Railway Alchetron The Free Social Encyclopedia It has been developed to promote and develop international rail transport in asia and with neighboring regions. the agreement sets out the framework for the development of a trans asian railway network that consists of defined railway lines of international importance. The trans asian railway (tar) network is projected to enhance trade efficiency by significantly reducing transit times and transport costs compared to maritime routes, thereby facilitating higher volumes of intra asian and eurasian freight. The 128,000 kilometer long rail network passes through 28 countries and was formalized through an inter governmental agreement on trans asian railway network that entered into force in 2009. The idea to link the far east and europe by rail took its origin with the construction of the trans siberian railway linking moscow to vladivostok, completed in 1916. with a length of 9,200 km, it is the longest rail segment in the world. it was initially used solely as an inland rail link.
