Towards A Future Proof Knowledge Region South holland coastal framework 2070 is a collaborative initiative. the hague, leiden, delft, zoetermeer, the provincial administration, and key local knowledge institutions are brought together to tackle the critical spatial economic challenges that the region will face in the future. The strategy aims to provide building blocks for the development of the area as a sustainable knowledge region. to achieve this, a regional spatial economic perspective is developed, based on four guiding principles.

The causal linkages between institutional innovations and modern knowledge economy are still not sufficiently analyzed and understood in the literature. the eu recovery plans offer a new opportunity to assess the causal linkages, especially in the context of european regional development. We introduced the concept of the “merwede biotope” for the district, a carefully crafted ecosystem that caters to the different zones within the area and allows for flora and fauna to thrive naturally. Drawing inspiration from the characteristic vibrant summer vibes and beach hues of the famous beach of la barceloneta, we named it “la barcelonita”, envisioning it as the little sister of la barceloneta. the project is a unique street intervention designed with simplicity yet effectiveness in mind.
