Prince R380 Open Viaretro Gr8 engine was a straight 6 dohc engine produced by prince motor company in 1965. in 1968, nissan detuned it for novice drivers, and built s20 engine. s20 was essentially the same as the gr8. In the end, the r380s would take the overall victory, with giichi sunako's r380 ahead of hideo oishi's second place r380.following the rebuilding of the r380s by nissan, four cars were once again entered in the japanese grand prix.

Prince R380 11 Viaretro Prince motors, which had been developing the prince r380 specifically for the scheduled 1965 event, decided that instead it would put the racing to the test by pitting it against a range of international speed records. the date was october 6, and the place was yatabe, ibaraki prefecture. But they weren’t about to let that knock them out – the all new prince r380 was going places. instead they wheeled the r380 out onto yatabe test track in october 1965 to take on the world of speed records. Prince was absorbed into nissan in 1966, the new parent was delighted to inherit the cars and its team and put to one side a similar racing project in its early planning stages. The last r380 retired from the race due to mechanical troubles. during this era, sunako san considered his win in the r380 much greater than his herculean effort driving the skyline gt b and coming second to the 904 in his previous japan grand prix.
