The project focused specifically on the black skimmer (rynchops niger) and gull billed tern (gelochelidon nilotica), two species designated as u.s. fish and wildlife service species of conservation concern and gulf coast joint venture priority species. This aids in “skimming” the water for fish, and upon feeling prey against their jaw, they immediately snap it shut. their bodies are black with white feathers around the face and underside. In this project, my focus is dedicated to analyzing the population trends of the black skimmer along the expansive gulf coast of the united states, stretching from texas to florida.
