Using innovative pedagogy, reflective practice opportunities, and applications to learning, the department of teaching and learning (t&l) develops and supports our candidates in becoming culturally competent educators who equip and inspire all students to learn. Teaching for change’s work began decades ago with teacher committees in solidarity with central america. we developed lessons and workshops to address the scarcity of resources in the k–12 curriculum. No infrastructure for latinx studies and central american studies existed at my undergraduate university, so i delved into latinx and central american history, especially central american studies, all on my own. i taught myself what my education system never did, and what i found horrified me.

The master of arts in teaching program in teacher education prepares students for teaching english, mathematics, science, and social studies at the secondary licensure level, and world languages, and speech drama at the multi level licensure areas. An associate’s degree in education can jumpstart your pathway to licensure by meeting coursework requirements necessary for admission into a traditional arkansas approved educator preparation program.
