Tackling Transfer While successful transfer is critical to fostering social mobility, of the students who enter community college intending to get a bachelor’s degree, few ever do. from 2018 to 2021, the tackling transfer project set out to tackle this persistent problem. The aspen institute college excellence program, hcm strategists, and sova have joined together through the tackling transfer initiative to partner with institutional leaders, policymakers, and practitioners in minnesota, texas, and virginia to dramatically improve transfer outcomes for baccalaureate seeking students who begin at community colleges.

Tackling Transfer Tackling transfer is led by three organizations the aspen institute’s college excellence program, hcm strategists and sova and includes focused work in select states, as well as national work aimed at lowering barriers to transfer student success. This study summarizes the benefits and limitations of articulation agreements and offers new student centered approaches colleges can take to improve transfer student outcomes. College and university faculty, staff and administrators are invited to apply for funds to develop, adapt or expand collaborative strategies towards eliminating existing inequities, gaps or predictable patterns related to the student transfer experience. The tackling transfer policy advisory board will challenge the status quo and make strong and clear recommendations for state transfer policy that will lead to equitable transfer student outcomes.

The tackling transfer policy advisory board will challenge the status quo and make strong and clear recommendations for state transfer policy that will lead to equitable transfer student outcomes. Tackling transfer developed resources and tools drawing from research, policy, and practice to reform transfer systems and improve transfer student success. This brief summarizes the benefits and drawbacks of articulation agreements, outlines five key principles for improving transfer outcomes, and showcases partnerships with strong transfer results. As part of the national tackling transfer project, higher education leaders in three states—minnesota, texas, and virginia—made a commitment in 2018 to improve transfer student success and close equity gaps.
