Summer 2014 Excavation Areas The Portus Field School The Portus Field Excavation of n7 11 took three weeks and four days, with the unit opened on the 11th of june, and closed on the 6th of july, 2014. the unit was subsequently backfilled, with a layer of tarpaulin between exposed walls and the backfill to help facilitate future investigation. As this was the final excavation season at nmo, we opened and cleaned the entire excavated surface of layer 5 basalt hill. the aim was to get a complete picture of the basalt hill, its topography, extent and height over the surrounding surface. In this interim report, we describe the major discoveries of the 2014–2017 seasons, including the extraordinary figural mosaics decorating the synagogue floor. The 11th season of excavations at megiddo took place during seven weeks in june and july. over one hundred staff and team members took part in the excavation. the conflict in the gaza strip forced the shut down of work at ashkelon and jaffa and their students joined the work at megiddo.
