While students generally exhibit positive attitudes towards gamification, its impact on academic achievement remains a subject of debate. this study employed a meta analysis approach to examine the overall influence of gamification on students' academic performance. Despite its popularity, research on gamification has produced mixed results regarding student learning outcomes. this meta analysis aims to synthesize the existing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of gamification as a tool for promoting teaching and learning in educational settings.

Taking both an observational and explanatory perspective, we examined the theoretical foundations used in research on gamification, serious games and game based learning through a systematic literature review and then discussed the commonalities of their core assumptions. The gamification of learning has received increased attention and was hyped over the last decade for its hypothesized benefits on motivation and learning. however, as popularity increased, so did critical voices referring to the concept as bullshit or pavlovication.
