Stackpole Lakes Project Wales National Trust Over the past few months, the stackpole lakes project has made significant strides. a community consultation gathered over 300 responses, highlighting how deeply the lakes are valued and raising awareness of environmental challenges. Pobl tir môr cic was commissioned by the national trust in june 2024 to undertake engagement to support the development of a shared vision for the future of the stackpole lakes, which are part of the national trust’s stackpole estate in pembrokeshire.

Stackpole Lakes Project Wales National Trust Stackpole national nature reserve's diverse landscape includes the shallow freshwater bosherton lakes, woodlands, dunes, limestone cliffs and beaches. the cliffs demonstrate the geology of stackpole. they are topped by a limestone plateau which was lifted from the sea bed around 50 million years ago. On the south pembrokeshire coast, the nt’s stackpole estate includes not only some spectacular limestone cliff scenery and two of the best beaches in wales, but also, inland, woodland and lakes: the picturesque bosherston lily ponds (as they are known). The stackpole estate contains the beaches of barafundle bay and broad haven south. the 100 acres (0.40 km 2) of lakes are home to eurasian otter, goosander, gadwall and kingfisher. The national trust manages 2000 acres of the stackpole estate, a wonderful combination of natural and carefully designed landscape. part of the estate was laid out in the 18th century in romantic style with water features, bridges, grottos, an icehouse, woodland gardens, and a summer house.

The national trust manages 2000 acres of the stackpole estate, a wonderful combination of natural and carefully designed landscape. part of the estate was laid out in the 18th century in romantic style with water features, bridges, grottos, an icehouse, woodland gardens, and a summer house. Stackpole estate is both a listed designed landscape and an internationally important nature reserve. footpaths radiate from the site of stackpole court, a grand mansion demolished before the national trust owned this area. exotic plantings in lodge park give way to mixed woodland further upstream. A fantastic sprawling estate of lakes and woodland that spill out onto beaches and a stunning coastal path along the cliffs. the lakes are famous for the vast blanket of water lilies. look out for otters, dragonflies, toads, wildflowers and freshwater & coastal birds. I am looking forward to working with the team in a variety of projects with my primary focus area being the relationships between agricultural activity and water quality. A swimming pool on the stackpole estate in pembrokeshire has been installed with enough renewable technology to make it the largest collection of solar thermal panels on a national trust.
