Catherine Mcrae Empowering Students To Make Their Voices Heard Empowering young people to raise their voices is not just a feel good notion; it's critical to create a thriving and equitable educational system. for much of my young life, my voice felt like a whisper in the wind. The project developed a framework for engaging children and young people in discussion about mental health, and having their voices heard. as a result, we have seen an increase in pupils. We introduce the papers and discuss how distinctive contexts exemplify emerging themes and tensions that come into play as we examine the concept of learners’ voices. Genuine school innovation doesn't happen to students. it happens with them. this transformation begins when we move students from the margins of decision making to the heart of design processes. simply allowing them to be mere passengers or offer post decision feedback falls short.

When students don’t believe their voices matter, we lose curiosity, connection, and the heart of authentic learning. Some students are engaged and ready to learn, while others who face more difficult circumstances are struggling with connection, motivation, grades, and more. despite the challenges, you’re doing your best to reach them all. The research is clear: when students feel heard, their mental health improves. they develop stronger coping skills, deeper connections, and a greater sense of belonging. Students can be helped to apply different cognitive frames to uncertain situations. by seeking to convert students’ anxiety into curiosity or excitement, we can help them to recognise and harness the opportunities that often emerge through upheaval and disruption.
