Github Syntaxxor Smooth Voxel Raytracing A Simple Voxel Raytracer Voxel terrain is a popular way to represent 3d geometry in games and simulations. however, voxel terrain can look blocky and unrealistic. in this post, i will describe an algorithm for smoothing voxel terrain to make it look more organic and less blocky. Smooth voxels allows you to turn voxel models into low poly style or smooth organic looking models, mixing materials in one model. smooth voxels uses a text format and lends itself fabulously for procedural generation of 3d models, check out the generator in the playground!. Smooth voxels allows you to turn voxel models into low poly style or smooth organic looking models, even mixing styles in one model. smooth voxels uses vertex averaging to produce a much smoother appearance than for instance marching cubes, as seen in this 7x7x7 (!) voxel apple. After voxelization, i used intersection algorithm to identify boundary cells which represent actual input geometry as you can see in the above image. either we can take voxels outside boundary or inside the boundary for projection. since projecting inside voxels on the surface mesh is quite easy.
