Seed Saving Workshop Groundwork Somerville Want to learn more about the different methods for saving seeds and the role of seedsaving in the context of food sovereignty? in this workshop, we will both discuss and practice different seedsaving techniques for a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. As the stewards of somerville’s only urban farm, we employ 30 local youth each season to help us produce over 2,000 lbs. of organic produce for our community annually!. Through youth empowerment, urban farming, equitable food access, and community engagement, groundwork sows the seeds of a healthy community. our work is grounded in the understanding that environmental conditions are inextricably linked to economic, social, and racial injustice. Groundwork somerville’s work is supported by diverse public and private sources, including federal, state, and local government grants, foundation grants, business partnerships, individual donations, and in kind contributions of materials and services.

For six weeks, we hosted 43 high school students representing 10 boston neighborhoods and six greater boston communities. students spent their summer learning, growing, and creating concepts for groundwork somerville’s new urban farm and the kiosk that will be used by artists at 10 world trade. Close to 200 attendees filled south street farm to participate in six workshops that used the farm’s produce for culinary demonstrations. community members prepared salsa, roasted corn and fermented berries for jam while learning about food sustainability.
