Thanks Sara Young Agrarians It's wild to say but i'm officially an ashoka canada fellow this year! i am really so very grateful for this recognition of the work of young agrarians (ya). The ever rising cost of land is the #1 barrier to entry for new farmers. with land values already high, in 2021 alone, the market value of land and farm buildings in canada rose by 22.7%. most young farmers, sara notes, simply don’t have access to the capital or credit to enter the market. Across western canada, young agrarians now has twenty eight staff. sara has 20 years of experience in agriculture and food systems, working in the charitable sector developing programs, fundraising, farming, building community, acting as an agent for change, and is an ashoka fellow.
