Indonesia’s most recent attempt to revitalize its science, technology, and innovation (sti) sector through the 2019 law on national system for science and technology hints at a vision to strengthen the role of the state as knowledge enabler.

Revitalizing Indonesia S Knowledge Sector The knowledge sector initiative (ksi) is a 15 year programme to help develop systems that will enhance the production and use of knowledge, especially research knowledge, during development. The knowledge sector initiative (ksi) – funded by australia’s department of foreign affairs and trade (dfat) – supported 16 policy research institutes over 10 years across four main areas: research quality, networks and profile, policy engagement and financial sustainability. The objective of this activity is to develop a consensus view of what an appropriate policy framework for national knowledge sector development would be, and what are the main constraints and opportunities for developing indonesia’s knowledge sector. A knowledge community (kc) is defined as an “adaptive ecosystem of individuals and organisations in the public, private and civil society sectors that are actively engaged in the production, transmission, demand and use of all kinds of knowledge that contributes to public policy processes”.
