Review Logan 2017 Dorkaholics So after seventeen years and eight movies, is logan finally the movie that these fans have been clamoring for? logan, a movie directed by james mangold and starring jackman, sir patrick stewart, and dafne keen, offers from the first three minutes a different x men film than any other. “logan” has stakes that feel real, and fight choreography that’s fluid and gorgeous instead of just computer generated effects. most importantly, “logan” has characters with which you identify and about whom you care.
Logan Opens Friday March 3 Logan takes the best aspects of millar’s original comics and refines them, resulting in a heart breaking and mature take on wolverine that ranks among the best superhero movies ever made. An uncommon comic book film that transcends its label, logan engages through its harmony of post modernism and serious treatment of complex characters. logan arrives on the heels of 2016’s deadpool, the first 20th century fox superhero film with an r rating. Of all the movies i watched recently on my long plane rides (rogue one; john wick 2; shin godzilla), logan is my favorite. the acting, the pacing, the dialogue, and the action all help elevate this film far above my initial expectations. Set in the near future, wolverine logan (hugh jackman) is in hiding with professor charles xavier (patrick stewart). they encounter a young mutant (dafne keen) who is pursued by the sinister agents of a corporate laboratory.

James mangold ’s spaghetti western approach to logan fits like a glove, and the smaller, more contained approach to setting and plot allows the film to really center on wolverine’s chaotic and mangled past. includes gruff performances by hugh jackman and patrick stewart. Director james mangold ‘s storytelling is slow paced and contemplative, the cinematography is beautiful, lauren (dafne keen) is so watchable, feral, and tender, and the film is properly bleak and brutally violent in ways that this kind of story demands. Desolate and stark, logan is a superhero flick unlike many others. in fact with its hues of yellow, harsh landscapes, and slow burning character focus, it’s more akin to a great western. Reviewed by dustin putman for thefilmfile , march 2, 2017. stripped down to its grizzled, unapologetic essentials, "logan" is unlike all previous "x men" films (and, it should go without saying, the inferior spin offs, 2009's "x men origins: wolverine" and 2013's "the wolverine").
