The renovation of fair park's hall of state, led by gensler, restores an iconic landmark of texas history to its full, breathtaking glory. fair park was originally built in 1936 to mark the centennial anniversary of the republic of texas.
Restoration Centennial Hall Built by the state of texas for the 1936 centennial exposition, the hall of state has hosted events honoring presidents, royalty, heads of state, and other dignitaries for over eighty years. Centennial hall is the largest exhibit hall at fair park. the centennial hall was originally constructed in 1905 as the first steel and masonry exhibition building on the fairgrounds. Completed in 1936 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the state of texas, the hall of state (originally the state of texas building) is a 360 foot long exhibition and event space designed by architect donald barthelme in the art deco moderne style as the centerpiece of fair park.
