Resources Lomakatsi Restoration Project
Holiday Message From Lomakatsi Restoration Project Lomakatsi It highlights ongoing oak habitat restoration at table rocks, tribal engagement, and the monitoring and adaptive management framework that guide’s kson efforts. The lomakatasi restoration project works to restore forest health and fight wildfires in the american west. in turn, it's providing jobs to tribal youth.
Aquatic Habitat Restoration Lomakatsi Restoration Project Lomakatsi’s main focus is on restoring resilience to the fire adapted and dependent ecosystems that dominate this part of the country, mainly the mixed conifer forests and oak woodland habitats. For over 30 years, lomakatsi has served hundreds of tribal and multicultural youth through innovative workforce training and employment programs that build valuable professional skills, accomplish strategic ecosystem restoration treatments, and provide pathways to natural resource careers. By strategically reducing fuels across a contiguous landscape, this project, combined with concurrent efforts including those by rogue forest partners, is anticipated to reduce the risk of severe wildfire for communities in a 27,000 acre project footprint by up to 50%. With a staff of 45 full time and an additional 40 seasonal employees, we provide expertise and capacity in program development, planning, management, detailed ecological restoration design, monitoring and restoration implementation.

With a unique, holistic approach to restoration, lomakatsi integrates western science and indigenous traditional ecological knowledge to restore forest communities, wildlife habitats, and address the threat of severe wildfires. Lomakatsi works to protect old growth trees by thinning out the encroaching smaller trees from underneath them (notice smaller white fir tree marked to the right for removal). The specific objectives of this project are to improve the resiliency of sagebrush steppe, woodlands, and riparian ecosystems and associated cultural landscapes and resources in and around the nps units of the western us. Since 1995, lomakatsi has partnered closely with local, state and federal agencies, tribes, nonprofits, timber industry organizations, community members, and many others to restore thousands of acres of forests and miles of streams.
