From screen industries and digital storytelling to fashion and video games, some of the uk’s best performing and world renowned creative businesses are receiving a major boost thanks to the creative industries clusters programme.
Resource Centre Creative Industries Clusters Programme The creative industries clusters programme comprises nine research and development (r&d) partnerships, among which is the business of fashion, textiles and technology (bftt) partnership, and an independent policy and evidence centre led by nesta with partners. Underpinning the creative industries clusters programme was a simple, yet compelling hypothesis ‘that investing in applied research and innovation in established creative clusters can achieve a measurable increase in economic growth through increased participation in r&d by creative companies’ (smith, chitty, meller, 2021). Each of the nine clusters has been hard at work, bringing together some of the finest creatives in fashion, film and television, informatics, design, computer games, performance and immersive technology – from startups to global businesses – and linking them with the brightest academic minds. This is our final evaluation report to the arts and humanities research council (ahrc) on the impact of the creative r&d partnerships (crdp) element of the creative industries clusters programme (cicp).

The £55 million investment supported nine creative industries clusters that brought together creatives in fashion, film and television, informatics, design, computer games, performance and immersive technology with the brightest academic minds. As we launch the second phase of the creative clusters programme, this blog post looks back at the impact of the programme so far and plans for the future. The £80m plus creative industries clusters programme will help to deliver this vision: eight new creative r&d partnerships will bring together the uk's renowned creative industries with arts and humanities led research from our world leading university sector. We will be prioritising new geographies and sub sectors of the creative industries – areas that haven’t previously received cluster funding – and as we grow, we’re keen to support regional growth plans across the uk.
