Reflections Sakharov Web Exhibit This web exhibit from the american institute of physics follows the life of andrei sakharov, the father of the soviet hydrogen bomb and a defender of human rights. An extreme reflection of the dangers confronting modern social development is the growth of racism, nationalism, and militarism and, in particular, the rise of demagogic, hypocritical, and monstrously cruel dictatorial police regimes.
Reflections Sakharov Web Exhibit In may 1968, sakharov completed an essay, "reflections on progress, peaceful coexistence, and intellectual freedom". he described the anti ballistic missile defense as a major threat of world nuclear war. Sakharov’s signature foresight is on display in “reflections”: well ahead of his time, he was able to identify and analyze many problems that the world would face some half a century later as well as predicting the use of the internet and ai. Sakharov.space is a digital museum of a. sakharov, dedicated to the centenary of the great scientist and human rights activist. it is the first and only large scale project of its kind. its purpose is to tell the life story and preserve the contribution of sakharov to the struggle for human rights. So some of us, myself included, were ready for the printing in the new york times on july 11, 1968, of an article about sakharov’s reflections on progress, peaceful coexistence and intellectual freedom and of the full text of the essay on july 22nd.

Andrei sakharov saw it coming. living through the advent of the soviet union and directly experiencing its repression gave sakharov plenty of examples of how a corrupt regime achieves power. he would, i think, be aghast at the current trajectory of the united states, formerly a beacon of democracy. ⊕andrei sakharov. Though the world has changed dramatically during the past twenty years, not least in russia and in europe, several issues which sakharov raised continue to be acutely relevant.
