Queer Maps Mag Queering the map is a community generated counter mapping platform for digitally archiving lgbtq2ia experience in relation to physical space. It is possible to say that map activism started with nambla (north american man boy love association), a pro contact movement that united queer maps. one of the oldest map symbols, the boylove logo, was designed by two queer men who took inspiration from the gay liberation pink triangle.
Queer Maps Queering the map is a community based online collaborative and counter mapping platform on which users submit their personal queer experiences to specific locations on a single collective map. since its inception, users have contributed more than 500,000 posts in 23 languages to the platform. [1]. Visitors anonymously pin their experiences, memories and histories to an online global map, and each pin contains a unique micro story of queerness: the meaningful and mundane experiences of lgbtqia life. The platform provides an interface to collaboratively archive the cartography of queer memory—from park benches to the middle of the ocean—in order to preserve our histories and unfolding realities, which continue to be invalidated, contested, and erased. Queering the map is a community generated platform to record queer experiences relating to physical places. the entries range from very intimate stories of first dates, kisses, and encounters to accounts of collective activism and many other unique experiences.
