Qldc Climate Action Plan

Qldc Climate Action Plan Since 2019, queenstown lakes district council has been working with our community and key partners to take meaningful climate and biodiversity action across the district. Queenstown lakes district council (qldc) has adopted its third climate & biodiversity plan (cbp 2025–2028), setting a “clear and ambitious” roadmap to reduce emissions, protect biodiversity, and strengthen community resilience across the district, the council says.

Qldc Climate Action Plan The plan sets out how the district is going to respond to climate change and includes 50 actions. these range from reducing carbon emissions through more effective land use planning and infrastructure design, to regenerating native forest. We’re pleased to share that the queenstown lakes district council has formally adopted the 2025–2028 climate and biodiversity plan. the plan sets out how our district will take action over the next three years to reduce emissions, restore biodiversity, and build resilience to a changing climate. We are pleased to support the overall direction and intent of the plan and look forward to further productive collaboration with the queenstown lakes district council (qldc) through the otago climate officers group, and the otago biodiversity forum, as well as collaboration on implementation. In 2019 we declared a climate and ecological emergency. we are tackling emissions reduction, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity restoration in an integrated and holistic way.

The release of the 2025–2028 climate & biodiversity plan will allow us to build on this strong foundation with renewed ambition and a sharper focus on partnership. the plan is a call to accelerate our momentum, and to be bold, practical, and collaborative in tackling the defining issue of our time. In 2019, queenstown lakes district council (qldc) declared a climate and ecological emergency and launched its first climate action plan 2019 2022. this plan set the foundation for council’s response and focused on an ambitious range of actions across five outcome areas. Our first climate action plan (2019 2022) focused on laying a solid foundation for the district wide response to climate action. while much has been achieved, we recognised during the development of this new plan that we needed to strengthen our focus on the ecological emergency. Our environment is a highly complex system of interdependent relationships, which is why we know reducing carbon emissions, adapting to a changing climate, and restoring indigenous biodiversity should be approached together rather than separately.
