This course aims to provide public land managers with a practical understanding of the necessary steps to including grazing livestock on the public lands they manage. The purpose of this project is to improve management of grazing on public lands by offering livestock operators greater flexibility to more readily respond to changing on the ground conditions, such as drought or wildfire. To address that issue and regulate the practice of grazing on public lands, the us government passed the taylor grazing act of 1934, named for colorado representative edward taylor. When agency staff aren’t monitoring the land, cattle can graze where they’re not supposed to, or in greater numbers or for longer periods than permitted. such overgrazing can spread invasive plants by dispersing seeds and disturbing the soil, pushing out native species, and worsening wildfire risk. Nearly all livestock grazing on federal lands occurs on lands managed by the bureau of land management (blm), in the department of the interior, or the forest service (fs), in the department of agriculture.
