Public Democracy La Why los angeles? los angeles is a vibrant, creative metropolis whose many strengths could lead it to become a more representative, equitable, and responsive democracy. Since that beginning, public democracy la (pdla) has developed into a full offshoot project of pad, with the goal of strengthening community democracy by catalyzing civic assemblies in los angeles area.

Over the past year, public democracy los angeles has advocated for a civic assembly in the los angeles area. in november 2025, the culver city council approved the initiative to explore how residents can meaningfully participate in the city’s annual budget process.

Public democracy la (pdla), a project of public access democracy, has pioneered a model for single day civic assemblies that demonstrate how everyday residents can tackle complex policy questions when given time, information, and structured deliberation.
