Projects Mbz Raptor Conservation Fund The mohamed bin zayed raptor conservation fund was founded in 2018 by his highness sheikh mohamed bin zayed al nahyan, president of the united arab emirates and ruler of abu dhabi, to develop transformative and innovative conservation solutions to address key threats facing raptors around the world. Prioritizing critically endangered, endangered, and data deficient species, the fund supports field based conservation actions such as research, habitat restoration, and community engagement. This pillar focuses on conserving and restoring populations of threatened raptor species such as the saker falcon. efforts include initiatives like artificial nest deployment and captive breeding and reintroduction programs aimed at bolstering wild populations. This report presents a selection of the projects the fund has recently supported, featuring species as diverse in their biology and scale as the mighty asian elephant and the humble red finned blue eye.

An initiative of the emirates falconers club, the mohamed bin zayed raptor conservation fund aims to protect birds of prey globally through scientific research and global partnerships. Through innovative micro financing, the mbz fund empowers conservationists to fight the extinction crisis instead of bureaucracy and red tape. to date, the fund has awarded over 2000 grants to a diverse range of species across the world. Using sound science, our signature project has focused on the mongolian steppes where we have been working with local partners to tackle the threat of raptor electrocutions from low voltage distribution lines that killed an estimated 18,000 raptors a year, including 4,000 saker falcons.
