Policy Legislation Archive Sick Cells This statement details our comments on the introduction of the sickle cell disease and other heritable blood disorders research, surveillance, prevention, and treatment act of 2023. There has been significant progress in taking steps to implement the recommendation. while full implementation has not occurred, this progress is meaningful. the agency has satisfied the national academies recommendation or legislation related to the national academies recommendation has passed.
Policy Forum Sick Cells Urgent policy changes are needed for equitable, inclusive, and just scd care and research. Washington, d.c. – u.s. senators cory booker (d nj) and tim scott (r sc), along with u.s. representatives danny davis (d il) and michael burgess (r tx), have updated the bipartisan, bicameral sickle cell disease comprehensive care act. Sick cells and the sickle cell community consortium present the 2025 sickle cell disease (scd) policy forum: march 11 12, 2025. Necessary for policymakers to reform legislation and public policies to enhance quality of life. the theoretical framework for this study was the policy feedback theory and the narrative policy framework. data were collected via semistructured interviews with a researcher developed interview guide. the data were analyzed using descriptive coding.

This month’s highlights include sick cells’ fy23 federal appropriations requests, our public comments on the 2022 cdc clinical practice guideline for prescribing opioids, our q1 policy debrief, and medicaid coverage meetings in oregon & texas. For far too long, individuals with scd have lacked consistent access to high quality, comprehensive care and treatment. below is information on current legislative priorities related to ensuring individuals with scd have access to timely, comprehensive, quality health care and treatments.
