I was taught to never lay a plane flat as it will turn the edge. my plane tills have a bar in the middle to keep the blade elevated. i know that the metal is harder than the wood, but any super sharp edge can easily be burred. the hump with the stump and the pump!. Finally finished my hand plane till, seems like i have been working on it a while. carcass is made from plywood with box joint construction, everything else is made from mahogany. the finish is minwax wipe on poly, which i ended up liking more than i thought i would. Here is a picture of a small tool cabinet with plane till i recently finished. the project had been on the back burner for some time while i was moving into and setting up my shop. I made this with festool and sawstop tools. i'm very limited on space in garage shop. most all of my wall space is taken up. found small space that would fit all of the antique planes i recently restored.
