Because for all these breakthroughs, brave feels hopelessly safe, less a pixar trailblazer than yet another entry in the disney princess line of films and products. My biggest issue with brave is that the first act of the story pushed the forced marriage plot down our throats only to forget about it entirely once the bear transformation happens. it just goes nowhere. it feels like two different movies in one, and that makes the writing and pacing feel rushed and awkward. Not pixar's best, but far from their worst. i've only seen it maybe twice, but it's fun, contains some good messages about family and fate, and i love the celtic atmosphere of it all. So today let's delve through all the details, contexts and explanations as to why this movie was so hate. and to dictate whether this film deserves it's label as pixar's terrible brave. Given that “brave” does break new ground by being the first pixar film to feature a female protagonist, that feeling of over familiarity comes as a surprise.
