Welcome Pine River Watershed For the past 25 years the pine river watershed initiative network (prwin) has partnered with local landowners and funders to implement in ground projects to improve the habitat and water quality in our priority pine river watershed on the eastern shores of lake huron. The pine river watershed is home to a variety of terrestrial wildlife species, including white tailed deer, rabbits, red fox, raccoon, opossum, coyote, chipmunks, and red squirrel.
Welcome Pine River Watershed The pine river watershed in northern gratiot county, michigan has been an environmentally stressed community for more than a century, experiencing cycles of both growth and decline as a result of resource exploitation. The pine river watershed alliance (prwa) is a citizen led volunteer organization that works with local units of government and other agencies to preserve and protect the local environment while meeting resident needs for economic development and a healthy community. Located in northern crow wing county and southern cass county, the pine river watershed contains some of the state’s most popular recreational lakes, including the whitefish chain of lakes and pelican lake. For 25 years, prwin has been dedicated to preserving and enhancing the health of the pine river and surrounding ecosystems.with collaborative efforts, we have implemented many projects focusing on water quality, habitat restoration and community education and outreach opportunities.
Pine River Watershed Home Located in northern crow wing county and southern cass county, the pine river watershed contains some of the state’s most popular recreational lakes, including the whitefish chain of lakes and pelican lake. Watershed level planning has become an accepted tool for managing resources at the basin watershed level. prwa has created a pine river watershed management plan that provides the direction for our organization to focus on effective environmentally sound watershed management. This area is designed for the community to learn about the pine river watershed, wetland creation, and the education of the local wildlife and plants that this area supports. The watershed drainage for the pine contains parts of aitkin, cass, crow wing and hubbard counties, and empties into the mississippi river at the southeast edge of the watershed via the pine river.
