Philippians Joy Church Paul’s letter to the philippians is a well crafted expression of gratitude and joy. so, what exactly is joy? how does joy differ from happiness? happiness is a fleeting emotion based on external circumstances. As we take a look at what paul had to say to the philippian church, we can be encouraged. even though our circumstances are constantly changing, god never changes, and his word still applies to our lives today. lesson throughout philippians, the words “joy” and “rejoice” are used 16 times. In it, paul freely expresses his fond affection for the philippians in view of their consistent testimony and support and lovingly urges them to center their actions and thoughts on the person, pursuit, and power of jesus christ. • despite the circumstance from which it was written, joy is all over the letter to the philippians. paul’s joy was not based in a sunny optimism or positive mental attitude as much as it was in the confidence that god was in control.
