Peer Support Workforce Development Form Communities This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community based organizations. it is a free, confidential, 24 hour a day, 365 day a year information service, in english and spanish, for individuals and family members needing treatment for a mental and or substance use disorder. The peer and recovery services programs, planning, and policy unit was created to develop, support, and advance the peer workforce in texas. the unit provides technical support, project management, policy consultation, and contract oversight for peer support service programs. Information in this issue brief will enhance states’ knowledge of peer support and assist in the inclusion and expansion of peer support throughout the behavioral health continuum. To support the scientific advancement of peers as professionals, this commentary provides an overview of the evolution of the developing peer profession and offers recommendations for future research with the potential to inform peer workforce related policy and practice.
