Pandemic Challenges Overdose Epidemic

The Overdose Epidemic Amid The Covid 19 Pandemic

The Overdose Epidemic Amid The Covid 19 Pandemic We find that the pandemic significantly increased the monthly overdose deaths. the worst effects were seen in the poor, urban neighborhoods, affecting black and hispanic communities. however, more affluent, suburban white communities also experienced a rise in overdose deaths. We explore the mechanism through which these factors influenced the rise in overdose mortality during covid 19 from the perspective of people with overdose encounters.

The Epidemic Within The Pandemic Increasing Overdose Deaths Preventing overdose in the era of the pandemic has been more difficult than ever and has become even harder to do for communities of color, people of low socio economic status, and persons with disabilities. This study offers critical insights into the correlation between the covid 19 pandemic and drug overdose deaths in the us, which could serve as a valuable resource for future research and policy making decisions. The us covid 19 epidemic has likely adversely affected the incidence of opioid overdose but has also led to opportunities to reduce overdoses by improving treatment. In this study, we review the theoretical linkages made in these publications and provide a conceptual framework that links specific covid 19 pandemic responses to the unintended pathways that generate increased overdose risks.

In this study, we review the theoretical linkages made in these publications and provide a conceptual framework that links specific covid 19 pandemic responses to the unintended pathways that generate increased overdose risks. We conduct this research with a two fold aim: providing a quantitative analysis of the opioid epidemic in the united states (u.s.), and exploring the impact of the covid 19 pandemic on opioid related mortality. Drug overdose deaths continue to contribute to overall mortality and decline in life expectancy in the united states, resulting in substantial costs to society. during the coronavirus disease 2019 (covid 19) pandemic, the drug overdose crisis in the united states has further intensified. The covid 19 pandemic overlapped with ongoing global challenges related to opioid misuse and polysubstance abuse. in the years leading up to the pandemic, many countries observed rising fatalities involving synthetic opioids and mixtures of substances, including stimulants and benzodiazepines (compton et al., 2021) [5]. We assess the evidence on whether increases in overdose deaths and ed visits are likely to be related primarily to the covid 19 pandemic, increased synthetic opioid use, or some of both.
