Cloud Odyssey Teletype Teletypes, or teleprinters, are electromechanical devices that originated in the late 19th century. they were invented to facilitate the transmission of typed messages over long distances via electrical signals. The teletype, like the early stages of computers, were chunky and loud but they were innovative. it led to the start of humans being able to get machines to take some of the load off. Teletypes in one form or another go back to about 1907. they were used originally as automatic telegraph and telegram machines. teletypes reached their familiar mature form in the 1920s and the asr33 was announced 1962. While initially used to communicate directly between devices, the use of teletype eventually evolved into the telex network, which effectively made it possible to distribute data through a telegraph wire or via the radio. Was a glass tty ever a real device? did they ever make video terminal? yes, many. i personally am always on the prowl for a dmd 5620. An obscure teletype corporation research project was the development of a tv system for video conferencing and similar applications. unfortunately it never made it beyond the prototype stage. At the receiving end of the telegraphic signal, either (or both) of two things could happen: the transmitted text could be printed out on a teletype model 20 page printer (discussed later) or it could be punched to a new tape using a unit called a “reperforator.”.
