Resident Inspector Nuclear Regulatory Commission The nrc has two or more resident inspectors on site at each plant at all times. these inspectors serve as the nrc’s local presence and oversight throughout the industry so that it is not removed from day to day industry happenings. Bring your education and experience to this challenging training program where you’ll participate in classroom training, assess licensee performance, conduct in depth inspections and present. When the resident inspection program began, nrc was committed to ensuring that the resident’s time would be productively used. as the program has developed, however, the resident inspector has been asked to perform certain rou tine duties. The nrc’s resident inspectors program has been in place for decades. it was launched in 1978 – prior to the 1979 accident at the three mile island 2 nuclear power plant – to improve the agency’s inspection program.

Each plant has at least two such inspectors and their work is at the core of the agency’s reactor inspection program. on a daily basis, these highly trained and qualified professionals observe plant activities and check on how the plants meet federal safety requirements. From pioneering beginnings with just one inspector at two plants, to today's 119 inspectors at 56 sites nationwide, our eyes and ears at every u.s. operating commercial nuclear plant.
